Dialogue Beneath the Timber Shade: Balancing the Artificial and the Natural

“Beneath the Timber Shade” is a spatial creation that draws from nature, echoes tradition, yet is imbued with contemporary significance.

This opening dialogue, titled “How to Balance the Artificial and the Natural,” invites Luo Yujie (architect of “Beneath the Timber Shade”), Professor Song Yehao from Tsinghua University, Cheng Yanchun (architect of “Matrix”), and artist Xin Yunpeng to explore the following questions: How can we create more ecological spaces within cities? Can sustainable construction be achieved through modern industrial technologies? How can traditional Eastern timber framing techniques and construction wisdom gain new vitality in modern society? How can architecture and art rebuild human perception of and reliance on nature through bodily experience?

This dialogue is not merely a reflection on architecture and art but also a collective imagination about how future cities can coexist with nature.
