In the exhibition Unfinished Time at Taikang Art Museum, artist Ma Liuming’s works document Beijing’s East Village — a vibrant hub of Chinese contemporary art. In this lecture, Ma Liuming will share his personal experiences from the 1990s under the theme All Forms of Openness, describing how he faced the pressures of reality, physical limits, and cultural boundaries with an open attitude during that period full of changes and challenges.
This lecture specially invited scholar and curator Duan Jun to respond to the theme of The Impact of Behavior: Looking Back at the 1990s. From the perspective of social change and the transformation of artistic concepts, he analyzed why the 1990s marked a crucial turning point for Chinese contemporary art, and how the East Village has intervened in reality with strong vitality and exerted an influence that continues to this day.
