Temporal Resolution: Time Exploration in Imaging Devices and AI Creation

The artist Gao Wenqian believes that “animation” can serve as an interface for artists to enter the virtual world. Through “moving images,” he shapes the audience’s perception of time and, by analyzing “meta-animation,” reveals the distribution of the sensible behind this “magic of time.” Therefore, “The Rehearsal project” series of public events will guide participants on a journey through time using “animation” as the medium.

During this sharing session, Gao Wenqian will reflect on his own creative trajectory and explore the perceptual technology of time through the medium of animation. His early video work, “Temporal Resolution,” will be screened. Additionally, in connection with his new piece “Potemkin Village” for “The Rehearsal project”, Gao Wenqian will share how he utilized StreamDiffusion to assist in his creative process. He will guide the audience in collaborating with AI, generating animated works in a playful, block-building fashion, while operating in real-time to inspire reflections on the shifting of the moving image world following AI’s involvement.
