The body exists within space and is invariably constrained and shaped by it. For instance, our bodies must adapt to spaces of varying sizes and shapes to perform different movements and actions. Beyond physical, tangible “places,” space can also be an abstract concept, such as intellectual space, imaginative space, or emotional space. “Matrix” (Mu Ti) is precisely such a space—embodying both physical attributes and abstract conceptual qualities. It is soft, suspended, something that can not only be touched but also entered into.

In this salon, Tang Xin, Matrix curator and Taikang Art Museum artistic director, will join architect Cheng Yanchun, structural engineer Zhang Jinbin, architect Jin Qiuye, and artist Xin Yunpeng to explore the following themes: the relationship between urban planning/design and the body, the connection between modern architecture and installation art, and the interplay between sculpture and the body.
