‘Matrix’ is an installation about the experience of space. By placing an additional layer of space within the high-ceilinged space of the Taikang Art Museum, it creates a space within a space. This spatial installation, set within an office building in Beijing’s CBD, explores the relationships between the body, emotions, and memory. Different from the architectural experience of the surrounding glass curtain walls and reinforced concrete buildings around the CBD, ‘Matrix’ aims to provide a soft, perceptual feeling like returning to the mother’s womb. This seperation from everyday spaces allows people to rediscover the connection between space and life. The huge elliptical sphere, suspended in the air by cables, freeing up the ground space, and resembles an alien object or a silkworm cocoon, vague and ambiguous, with a primitive sense of the future. People can walk up the stairs and enter the ‘Matrix,’ where various parts of their bodies can interact with it, and combined with the lighting and sound, it provides a full experience of the five senses.
