Cao Fei has always focused on the rapid social development of contemporary China, integrating popular culture, technological elements, and surreal aesthetics into her works. In 2005, she created the video work Whose Utopia at a light bulb factory in Foshan, Guangdong, depicting the lives and ideals of the workers. A decade later, Asia One delves into the core of the current internet shopping industry, reflecting the transformation of domestic manufacturing—from the labor-based factories in the Pearl River Delta region familiar to the artist, to a world driven by AI, automation, and advanced technology.

Asia One tells a love story set in a vast automated logistics center, where emotional entanglement unfolds among the only male and female workers and AI robots. Through highly personalized creative language and a futuristic visual landscape, the artist offers a fresh interpretation of the impact of industrial development and technological progress on human life.
