Hong Hao+Yan Lei
Taikang Project
2006
Acrylic on Canvas and Three Life Insurance Policies
Taikang Project, a compilation between Hong Hao and Yan Lei. This work was comprised of two parts: one 3×5.9 meter painting, and three life insurance policies valued at 7 million Yuan.
This is a conceptual artwork. What Hong Hao and Yan Lei used was not the subjective-objective reflection theory methods, but the visual methodology that emphasizes the deep and multilayered significance of symbols. They chose “Van Gogh” and “Taikang” as the two main creative elements. The western art system has become a giant system of reference for the construction of the Chinese art system. Taikang Project is aimed at issues in the system. Through an exploration of the work under the influence of this format, they advocate constructing a non-compartmentalized public system of public relationships for the construction of China’s future art system.
